Introduction to the
BETHISRAELMV List
We use the email list services provided by the USCJ to send
announcements
to the Beth Israel community. The system
also maintains an archive that lets you read messages via a web interface.
If
you are subscribed to the email list, you should receive the Rabbi's Weekly Message,
the Administrator's Weekend
Update, and the Monthly
Bulletin Message plus various other ad hoc messages. If
you have subscribed but are not receiving these messages, there may be a problem:
- with your list subscription
(such as an obsolete email
address or a subscription purged because of excessive delivery errors)
- with your email service (such
as a full mailbox or an
overeager anti-spam filter).
If you suspect a
problem, see the section on Troubleshooting
Delivery Problems in the Instructions
below.
One of the advantages of the
mailing list service is that it
lets subscribers manage their own subscriptions using the web interface. It
lets users add, remove,
and change their own email addresses as
well as read previous messages. Instructions
are provided further down the
page.
The system also allows
individual
subscribers a number of options for
how they want to receive messages:
- regular is
individual messages by email as they are
posted
- no mail lets
you remain on the list without receiving emails and read
the messages using the web
interface
- digest
options
that aggregate multiple messages together
- index
options that just provide brief summaries giving the sender
and subject lines along with details on how to get the full
message.

Troubleshooting
Delivery Problems
- Use the list web interface to
verify and/or update your delivery settings. You may have changed email
addresses without updating the list or your subscription may have been
automatically purged from the list if there were too many messages
rejected by your email provider. Instructions
for using the web
interface are above.
- If you use a PC-based email
client (e.g. Outlook), make sure any anti-spam filters
are configured
to recognize our list messages which contain "BETHISRAELMV@uscj.org"
in the "To:" field. You may also choose to whitelist mail from
the "bethisraelmv.org"
and "uscj.org" domains.
- Make sure that there are no
problems with your email account such as a full mailbox and make sure
any anti-spam filters
provided by your Internet provider are configured
to recognize our list messages as described above. You can access these
anti-spam settings via your Internet provider's web interface following
the instructions on their Help or FAQ pages. Here are the
current instructions for Comcast and Verizon.
