About Congregation Beth Israel
Congregation Beth Israel was established in 2004 by combining two Merrimack Valley congregations, each with a long and interesting history. Temple Beth El, of Lowell, and Congregation Tifereth Israel, of Andover, were both hundred-year-old synagogues with a wealth of pride, experience and tradition.
Style
Congregation Beth Israel is an egalitarian Conservative synagogue offering an atmosphere of warmth and friendship. We encourage our members to participate fully in all facets of synagogue life.
Religious School and Youth
Our children energize us, teach us, and challenge us, and we do the same for them, providing a basis for their Jewish identity via positive Jewish experiences.
From Tot Shabbat services on Friday night for the little ones to M&M minyans (our junior congregation program) to an award winning USY youth group, our family based programming caters to our vibrant and growing group of young families. The religious school, led by our new dynamic Principal, Rabbi Margaret Frisch Klein, meets twice a week and goes from Pre-K through our high school Midrasha program.

Spirituality
Our goal is that everyone who attends our services will experience kavanah, prayerful intention, and will gain a sense of fulfillment and belonging. Congregants of all ages lead portions of our services, bringing with them various styles of worship. While we value tradition, we also understand that we live - and pray - in a modern and changing world.
We are proud to welcome Rabbi Edward M. Friedman as our Rabbi, who joined us in the fall of 2009. Rabbi Friedman brings with him 35 years of rabbinic experience and wisdom. Rabbi Friedman's powerful voice and strong presence on the bimah combine to make his services stirring spiritual experiences.

Hospitality
Congregation Beth Israel is a warm and welcoming shul. Our membership is as varied as the community in which we live, and all are welcome to our egalitarian, handicapped-accessible services.
Social Action
Tikkun Olam, or healing the world, is our mandate as Jews. At Congregation Beth Israel, we seek out opportunities, both locally and globally, to practice this philosophy.
